Division Responsibilities

T-Ball / RookieNo scorekeeping. GC for schedule and team communication only.
Farm+Home team provides a GC scorekeeper for every game.
Farm+Visiting team runs the scoreboard.
Minor / MajorVisiting team keeps independent pitch count โ€” verify with scorekeeper after each half inning and every pitcher change.
  • GC is used for schedule, standings, and pitch counts.
  • Everyone (coaches, families, fans) should have GC for team comms.
  • Scorekeeper answers scoring questions from umpires and coaches.
  • Scorekeeper can flag pitch count, batting order, or min-play violations โ€” but umpires enforce rules. Their calls stand.
  • Standings use the score kept in GameChanger. Post-season seeding based on regular season standings.
๐Ÿ’ก Why We Do This
  • Pitch counts: Minor and Major have strict pitch limits. GC stats are how we monitor and enforce them.
  • Fans that can't make the game can follow the play-by-play gamestream.
  • Scoring is more accurate when both teams participate.
  • Family and fans can view stats and division leaders.
  • Coaches use stats to coach better. (Note: stats are NOT used in All-Star selections.)
โš™๏ธ GameChanger Setup & Config

What's already done for you:

  • Rosters are pre-loaded for all teams.
  • Both coaches can set lineups before the game โ€” you won't need to set initial positions or batting order.
  • Organization tab shows the full division schedule and current standings.

Game Settings to check:

  • Innings per game
  • Extra fielder
  • Pitch count alerts
  • Show playing time
  • Broadcast permissions
  • Home and Away โ€” should be set automatically but confirm before starting.
  • Only one person scored in at a time โ€” you'll get kicked out if 2 devices log in with same account.

To practice:

Go to a team where you're staff โ†’ Team Settings โ†’ Practice Scoring a Game

๐ŸŽฏ Scenarios We'll Practice

Basic plays

Swinging strike
Called strike
Hit by pitch
Passed ball โ€” runner on 1st advances to 2nd
Batter hits ground ball to 3rd, safe at 1st, runner advances to 3rd
Called strike โ€” 1st base runner steals 2nd

Tricky plays

Major only (Minor = out)Called 3rd strike, catcher drops it โ€” batter to 1st
Fly ball to pitcher โ†’ throw to 1st before runner tags up. Double play
Catcher's mitt hit by bat on swing โ€” catcher interference, batter to 1st
Ball + passed ball โ†’ runner to 2nd โ†’ catcher overthrows โ†’ runner to 3rd
Deep fly to RF, caught, runner tags up and scores โ€” sac fly
Intentional walk: score 4 balls manually. DO NOT use the intentional walk feature.
Runner left early โ€” called out. Message fans.
Catcher obstruction โ€” runner advancing home called safe

Game management

End the half inning before 3 outs (run limit): Menu โ†’ End Half Inning
Start the game clock / adjust if you forgot
Pull up pitch count report: touch pitcher name below the score
Lineup turns over โ€” go back to top of order
Courtesy runner for catcher with 2 outs: use last out as courtesy runner
Missed pitcher change โ€” go to Plays, find play, Edit โ†’ change pitcher, verify pitch counts
Add a 10th fielder
End a game: set winning/losing pitchers, save, blown save
Go back in after ending: override the score

Division-specific

FarmDon't score balls. Only score strikes the batter swings at or ump calls.
FarmFirst few weeks: teams may bat everyone in the inning โ€” don't score runs after the 3rd out.
MinorScore coach pitch innings
Position tracking tip: In Majors/Minors, ask coaches for their position chart by inning โ€” take a photo. Update positions before scoring any fielding play. Farm: do your best, less critical.
๐Ÿ“ Key Rules to Know
  • Pitch limits: Ages 6โ€“8: 50/day ยท Ages 9โ€“10: 75/day ยท Ages 11โ€“12: 85/day
  • Rest: 1โ€“20 pitches = 0 days ยท 21โ€“35 = 1 day ยท 36โ€“50 = 2 days ยท 51โ€“65 = 3 days ยท 66+ = 4 days
  • No pitcher in 3 consecutive days under any circumstance.
  • Catcher rule: can't pitch if they caught 4+ innings. Caught 3 or fewer + 21+ pitches = can't go back to catcher.
  • League age 12 cannot pitch in Minor division.
  • Minimum play: each player should play 6 defensive outs.
  • Time limits and inning limits vary by division โ€” check local rules.
  • Run limits per inning and mercy rules โ€” tournament rules differ from regular season.
๐Ÿ“น Live Video Streaming
Heads up for families: Free GC accounts can only watch 5 full games before hitting a paywall. Let parents know before the season.
  • Completely optional. Play-by-play gamestream is available even without video.
  • We have WiFi at Swope fields this year โ€” makes streaming much easier.
  • Easiest setup: fence clip behind home plate. Set it up, frame the shot, walk away.
  • Zoom tip: 0.7xโ€“0.8x usually gets 1st and 3rd in frame.
  • Scoring + streaming at the same time: needs two devices. Score on iPad, stream from phone. Use phone as hotspot for iPad if no WiFi.
  • Anyone on the team can stream (check Broadcast permissions โ†’ Who can broadcast?).
  • Stream visibility: 'Anyone' = fans of both teams can watch. 'Confirmed Members' = your team only. Shareable link available after game starts.
  • Gear to have: external battery (streaming kills your battery), fence clip, phone case (foul balls happen).
Other cameras: GoPro and Mevo Smart are supported. Mevo Smart works great on WiFi. GoPro has a wider angle than ideal. Both were finicky on phone hotspot.
๐ŸŽ›๏ธ Scoreboards
  • Board member opening the fields should have turned on the switches inside the pyramid.
  • Turn on the scoreboard controller.
  • Connect to scoreboard: push Home Score until the right field flashes all 1s โ†’ press Guest Score โ†’ press Horn. (Instructions also on the bottom of the controller.)
  • Pitches and outs count UP only โ€” if you overshoot, start a new batter or keep going around.
  • Runs count up, but there are subtract buttons.
  • Innings can ONLY advance โ€” no going back. If you accidentally advance: write down the score, start a new game, advance to the right inning, restore stats.
  • Most common problem: controller paired to wrong scoreboard. Reset instructions are on the back of the controller.
๐ŸŽต Music & Walkup Songs
  • No explicit content.
  • Mute volume before the play starts.
  • Be respectful โ€” other games are likely in progress on adjacent fields.
  • No kids in the scoring booth.
  • Keep food and drinks away from audio, internet, and scoring equipment.
๐Ÿ†• New for 2026

โš ๏ธ Live streaming now has a paywall for viewers

Free accounts can watch 5 full games before hitting a paywall. After that, viewers need an individual subscription, Family Plan, or Team Pass. Give families a heads-up before the season so they're not surprised mid-game.

iPhone Lock Screen scores (iOS Live Activities)

Fans following a game will see live score updates directly on their lock screen โ€” no need to open the app.

Defensive Innings by Position

GC now tracks how long each player has been at every position. Useful for coaches managing minimum play requirements and settling any disputes at the end of a game.

Better Mevo & GoPro integration

Deeper support for action cameras โ€” more stable connections and better controls from within the GC app. Still works best on WiFi.

Smarter scorekeeper assignment tools

Coaches can now assign scorekeepers and videographers more easily from within GC. Ties into the permissions workflow โ€” no volunteer registration required.

๐Ÿšจ If everything goes wrong

Keep pitch count and score by hand โ€” paper or phone notes. After the game, use manual overrides in GC to set the final score and pitches per player. Don't panic.

Getting your scorekeepers set up

  • Scorekeepers do NOT need to register as volunteers or complete background checks.
  • Coaches: set Broadcast/Scoring permissions in GC โ€” allow specific people or all confirmed family members to score.
  • Have at least 2 people per team who can score in a pinch.
  • Scorekeepers should complete the GameChanger University course (~30 min) before the season.
